Yes, it looks like it will have a good taste!

[Cilan has acquired a second set of oven mitts now--not quite as cute as the owl ones, these ones are just green with white polka-dots, but he helps assist her with their cake layers when they've cooled down some, turning them over to help them out of the pan and let them cool a little longer on some plates until it looks like they've become cool enough for frosting.]

Mm, it's frosting time! Now, when we add the frosting to the cake, we cover one layer like so--[And he'll demonstrate, but it's pretty easy to figure out how to cover it with the frosting as he then gestures to the next cake layer.] You can place the cake layers on top of one another, all the layers having frosting of course, and then the cake will be ready to eat!

[Basically, the cake will look something like this when you cut into it for a slice when they're done.]

Frosting time...! That seems straightforward enough. Then, let's begin!

[ taking out another spoon and enthusiastically plopping a glob of frosting on the first layer. maybe... too much frosting, she realizes. trying to spread it around enough. well maybe it's more delicious this way?! ]

[Well as long as the cake is frosted well enough, it should be okay...? Plus it's your cake, so you can add as much frosting as you'd like to be able to eat on it.

In the meantime, Cilan will multitask by adding some frosting on the top of the second layer, to be prepared for when it's ready to be added to the first layer and have the sides of it frosted as well.]

[ cheerfully finishing up the top of the first layer, and then glancing over at Cilan to see what else needed frosting. hmm... the sides? carefully trying to do that, as well. ]

Would we simply stack the layers on top of each other when we're done?

Yes we can--here, like so. [He's finished frosting the top of the second layer, and once it looks like Platina has finished frosting the first layer, he very carefully moves the layer he frosted to place on top of Platina's, making sure they line up evenly before placing it down and letting go. The sides still aren't frosted yet though, but now as he starts to add some frosting to them, he makes sure to cover them in a way that makes it more consistent with the sides of Platina's layer, blending in.]

Saving the sides of the other two layers for after you've placed them on top of one another is a little easier, I think, as it helps avoid getting too much frosting on your hands or elsewhere.

[ ... wait she's supposed to stop the denial thing. but she watches him try to cover up the inconsistencies and just. sheepishly tries to copy him, sighing a little at jumping the gun. ]

... Well, no I didn't. But the important thing is that I do now!

[And once they are done with frosting the sides here--though he leaves one side of it unfrosted momentarily so that he can add the final layer to the cake properly, they can start adding frosting to the sides of this one too, and then they'll be done!!]

Mm, I agree! Shall we find out for ourselves how it tastes? [We've definitely got forks and plates here, we can just take out a knife from the drawer for you to cut a slice of your cake if you'd like. ^^;;]

Oh, we can certainly do that! [Thanks for the reminder, we nearly forgot about doing something like that for your birthday and all.]

Let's see... [He opens some drawers looking for where they might keep some candles in the kitchen before he holds up a couple of them in different colors and such.] Which ones would you like to use?

[ hmm... after a while, she picked out pink, yellow, and blue candles, spread them over the tabletop before starting to stick them in on top of the cake. somehow it feels a little nostalgic, even if she's sure she hasn't done this before. ]

Excellent choice--those colors go well together and give a vibrant taste... [Now where do we keep a lighter or some matches to light the candles...]

--Ah, here they are! [Found some matches here we could use, so he'll go ahead and light them for her when it looks like she's placed the candles where she wants them to be.] How's this?

[ okay, trying and failing to get the hang of that. she admires the candles, cups her chin in the palm of one hand. ]

And I should think of a wish...

[Well that's okay, your attempts at speaking like a Connoisseur are kind of sweet...but at the latter comment, Cilan actually doesn't have an immediate suggestion for that--in all honesty, he's the type of person who tends to think that wishes made on candles or stars or ringing a bell won't just magically happen; you have to put the effort in to make a wish come true yourself. But it's not exactly the sort of thing you say on someone's birthday and besides, it's traditional for people to do that, so Cilan decides to keep this opinion to himself.]

Hm...well, I'm sure whatever wish you decide to make will be a splendid one. [And hopefully made before the candles melt down into your cake. ^^;;]

[ no she totally knows the feeling. the only way to get things done by your own hand is through your own experience!!... that said, wishes were customary, and doing things by the book was nice, too. ]
