Do alarms like that normally happen here? It was quite a wake-up call! I'm glad I wasn't drafted, but...
[ she's pretty concerned about people who are. Platina glances worriedly off to the side, then turns back to the feed. ]
I hope they'll be all right. In the meantime... does anyone know how to make a cake?
[ pointing the camera at her disastrous-looking attempt. yyyyes, wrong canon, but the girl is not a cook! it's her birthday and she wants cake damnit o9" also action is cool for anyone living in pokehouse too. ]

[You just gotta be sure that those ingredients have all been mixed together before adding that mixture to the mixture of eggs and sugar, that's all.]

[So much mixing and adding stuff going on, but once all of that is done, they'll actually eventually get to the pouring into pans and putting them in the oven part... ^^;;]

[ it... sounds delicious :9 she pours in the small bowl mix into the larger one, then starts diligently mixing again. it's like making poffins! gosh, if Dia were here, he'd be so proud of her. ]

Buttermilk has a thicker consistency to it than regular milk, as well as being a little more tart in flavor. It can be drunk straight, and it's also used as a cooking ingredient in some dishes, sometimes even sold in a powdered form.

[ hmm... not quite ribbony yet. she stares down as if curious to try tasting it, then stirs faster like NO NOT YET... SOON... ]
no subject
Here we are--ah, and it looks like your mixing of our ingredients is coming along with a fine taste! [YOU'RE DOING GREAT PLATINA /o/]
no subject
[ got to be gracious! but she is pretty proud of not spilling much this time. she offers the large mixing bowl to him for closer inspection, while examining the buttermilk. it looks pretty tempting :9 ]

Now that this is done, the next step will be the last step we have to do before we'll be able to add our batter to the pans: when you add our mixture of flour in from earlier and the buttermilk to this, I find that it's best to alternate between the buttermilk and the dry ingredients. Always start with the flour and end with the flour.
[What he means by that is, as some people do, you don't dump both in all at once to stir together--it's best to pour and stir in some of the flour, then the buttermilk, then the flour and so on and such until the last of the flour is added in and the mixture has taken on the appropriate texture of cake batter. Which he will in fact demonstrate for you himself as he does just that, adding some of their flour mixture in and stirring it into their wet mixture, before reaching for the measuring cup that they can pour the amount of buttermilk they need into it.]

[ she tastes a bit of the buttermilk from the regular glass, then makes a bit of a face, shaking her head a little as she puts it down and helps pour out the rest of carton into the measuring cup for him. ]
This doesn't taste like milk at all! Maybe I've been spoiled by the drinks at the cafe cabin back in Sinnoh.
no subject
Well, I did say that it's flavor would be a little more tart--that is, a little more bitter in comparison to regular milk. For people that choose to drink it, I suppose you could say that it's an acquired taste.

[ setting aside the glass and adding the cups of buttermilk to the bowl so he can mix. but she's a little more cheerful at how well it seems to be coming along. ]

When we pour this into our pans, we'll have to be sure to tap the pans gently on the table to help level out the batter and to release any stray air bubbles. After that's done, we'll be ready to put them in the oven!
no subject
[ after pouring in the last cup, she searches the drawers for pans, looking them over curiously. ]
... You don't have any custom cake pans, do you?
no subject
[Pointing to some cake pans...the ones we prepared earlier about oh, forty minutes ago or so give or take before we started mixing ingredients.
But it's okay I nearly forgot we even did that already myself.^^;;]no subject
[ whoops, well backreading backtags is apparently not what
Ia lady does!! she sheepishly pulls the prepared pans closer so he could pour. ]no subject
We'll let these bake for about...25 minutes, and then we'll check to see how our cake is--we'll have to be careful not to over bake, otherwise it'll end up with a drier taste than desired.
no subject
[ hmm hunting for oven mitts in preparation for putting the pans in. maybe some with cute patterns shhhhh shh 8D/ ]
no subject
Of course--ah, here it is. [Here's the timer--preparing to set it for 25 minutes. When he notices what Platina seems to be looking for, he hesitates for a second, but then he goes ahead and points to a drawer nearby.] The oven mitts should be in there--I'm sure I don't have to say that getting burned would be quite a painful taste to endure, so please be careful, alright?
[If you had been Ash or Iris we would have insisted being the one to deal with that but...Platina might be a little more careful than they would have been about putting and taking things out of the oven, right?]
no subject
Whew... finished! Well, I imagine the complicated part is.
no subject
That's right. Now it's a matter of waiting. [...Oh right, nearly forgot:] But while we're waiting on the cake to bake, we could get an early start on preparing the frosting to use for the cake once it's been baked and cooled, if you'd like.
no subject
[ hmm her bodyguards would've come up with something wittier. she turns as if going to look for it in the fridge or drawers before... ]
Where would it be, again?
no subject
[But it's your cake, he'll leave it up to you what kind of frosting you want to use or make.]
no subject
How long would it take to make our own frosting, Mr. Cilan?
no subject
[So...yeah, we should theoretically have enough time to make our own frosting for this?]
