[ wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and already in the arena! and so are empoleon, lopunny, and rapidash standing beside her. both awkward penguin and Platina give a wave o/ ]

Mr. Cilan, good morning!

[Ooh, hello Platina, and Platina's Pokemon. He offers a wave back in return.]

Good morning to you as well, Miss Platina! I hope we didn't keep you waiting for too long, right?

Not at all! And a gym battle is worth the wait. It's been a while!

Well, your enthusiasm certainly has a sparkling taste to it! [sparkling wow cilan isn't it too early in the morning for this--] Shall we make our way to the battlefield?

Of course. Where do battles here normally take place?

[ following his lead!... also shh this isn't early, she regularly gets up at like 5 8|b ]

[Man, we remember when we used to get up at 5 regularly...but that was when we had a job or kids to feed while on the road. But he's still capable of getting up that early if he's serious about it.

But yes, off we go to the battlefield! Here at the Battle Dome, the user programs the desired field for one of the free rooms. Presumably there's one here that's free for them to use now, thankfully, as he observes the computer that's used to designate and program which rooms to use.]

Are there any particular flavors you wanted the battlefield to have for us to utilize? [We can make this a normal field, we can design it to look like the inside of a gym, or go all out insane of what we want the inside of the room to look like, if Platina hasn't already tried putting in her own settings into this. ^^;;]

[ maybe all you need is a jam to wake up in the morning feelin like p............. pokemon training. she watches curiously, examining the array with a WHOA THIS IS NEAT kind of look because whoa, it really is. ]

Amazing! All of these customization options... would there be a setting that's similar to your gym? It'd be nice to have it as authentic as possible!

Mm, I think that can be arranged... [It's been a long time since we last battled in our own gym setting, so having that field would be nice. He puts in some settings to the computer, trying to figure out the best way to replicate the battlefield of the Striaton gym before he seems satisfied with what's been put together and pushing whatever button is needed to put the field together. When it looks like it's ready, he'll open the door to their designated room.] After you, Miss Platina.

[When Platina steps inside, the room has been simulated to look something like this--not a perfect replica as he'd need more time to figure out program settings and stuff, but close enough. Yeah, their gym (in the anime, anyway) kind of uses a rocky-looking field, but there are smooth places that one can stand in well enough.]

[ ahha, this looks familiar enough! her first gym battle took place in one like this. bringing back memories~ yep, Roark the rock and everything. she admires the arena for a moment while making her way over to the challenger's spot, pokemon following at her heels. ]

Thank you. This is quite nostalgic... I didn't quite take you for a rock-type gym leader, though!

Oh? [ahahaha...] I'm not, actually--to be fair, it's not a bad assumption to make considering the flavor of the field I suppose, but the Striaton Gym operates a little differently than some of the other gyms do in Unova.

[He walks over to take his spot at where the Gym Leader usually stands, as he explains.] You see, there are actually three Gym Leaders that run the Striaton Gym in Unova; myself and my brothers, Chili and Cress. We would give our opponents the option of selecting which of us they'd like to face in battle to earn their badge, so we use a field like this one that can be utilized by all three of us even with our different tastes in battling styles.

You ran it with your brothers? Three gym leaders in a single gym? I've never heard of such an arrangement, but it sounds fascinating.

[ RECONSIDER... ]

Or, shall I say, it has a fascinating taste! But your explanation certainly makes sense!

[Cilan nods in agreement before he turns his attention to Platina's Pokemon that are standing with her, analyzing them a little based on appearances so far. So Empoleon, Rapidash, and Lopunny are our opponents, huh...this may be a challenging taste, but we'll find a way to persevere.]

Well, your team certainly appears to have a promising flavor of potential to them--as a Pokemon Connoisseur, I'm sure it'll be an honor to taste the skills of a trainer of the Sinnoh region! [He's taking out a pokeball or two now to hold, ready to begin when you are.] But speaking as the Gym Leader of Striaton City, I cannot promise that this fight will be an easy one! Are you prepared to battle, Miss Platina?

And it's my honor to have my skills... tasted, I suppose. But certainly, let's begin!

[ she nods at her team, and immediately empoleon and rapidash leap into the ring, a practiced duo. her first two pokemon. they'd certainly faced a lot of battles together, and it shows as they anticipated their opponents. ]

[Oooh, good choices.] Allow us to present an earthly battle with a stimulating taste--come out, my vintage Pokemon!

[He tosses two pokeballs into the air (like so) to reveal his Pansage and Stunfisk, the grass monkey and mudfish-creature taking their places on the battlefield. They may be smaller than Empoleon and Rapidash by comparison, but they seem pretty confident enough nonetheless.]

As the challenger, we'll allow you to make the first move, if you wish.

[ oh wow that is a classy throw. she... kinda wants to take notes, but maybe later. his pokemon are really unfamiliar, but she reaches for her pocket just for a second before reconsidering. they're unova pokes, they won't show up in sinnohdex. ]

How gracious of you. Empoleon, rapidash--let's start with an aqua jet and quick attack.

[ GETTIN THE FIRST HIT IN, with penguin aiming at pansage and rapidash at stunfisk. ]

Pansage, use Dig! Stunfisk, endure the attack and use Scald!

[Pansage digs down into the ground in an effort to dodge Empoleon's attack, just barely grazed by it as it disappears underground somewhere. Stunfisk, on the other hand, has no real means to dodge by digging like that and is forced to take Rapidash's Quick Attack head-on, knocked up into the air...however, it seems to be doing just fine as the momentum gives it the chance to open it's beak-like mouth and proceeds to spray a blast of scalding hot water at the Rapidash in retaliation!]

[ what is scald, she's never even heard of that move before. but... wait, a water-type?! this is bad!! ]

Rapidash, agility--! Do try to dodge!

[ empoleon just braces herself for now as rapidash makes a run for it. the water splashes on his hooves and he whinnies in pain, but it's only a glancing hit for now and he aims his back legs in a retaliatory kick >8| ]

[Should we have mentioned our Pokemon knew water-type attacks? Ah well. Look on the bright side Rapidash: If you're lucky, maybe you'll have been spared from getting inflicted with a Burn status from that Scald attack for now.

Stunfisk is knocked forward by the retaliatory kick, landing back on the ground again and wincing a little, but still prepared to keep right on fighting at the next command.

...But wait, what about Pansage?

Oh, there it is, emerging from a hole right underneath Empoleon's feet to attack it, and once it has emerged, whether the landed attack from Dig is successful or not, Cilan gives another command.]

Pansage, use Bullet Seed! [Pansage opens it's mouth and begins to fire seeds at the metal penguin, up close and personal from where it had emerged previously from that hole.]

[ funnily enough, rapidash's shins are looking pretty solidly reddened. it was indicative of a burn if she'd ever seen one. Platina instinctively reached for her bag, but... no, the stores didn't exactly stock burn heals so her inventory wasn't in very good shape. still, his forehooves were still available for attack. ]

Rapidash, stomp! Empoleon, counter with ice beam...!

[ penguin's been swept off her feet from the attack and was still struggling heavily to recover, but twisted from her position to open her beak and aim her icy breath at Pansage, still prone, trying to freeze the seeds in midair. ]

Pansage, dodge it! Stunfisk, use Scald once more!

[We can't do anything about our bullet seed getting frozen and canceling out our attack, but Pansage jumps away to hide behind a nearby rock in an attempt to avoid getting hit by the beam of ice itself. Stunfisk on the other hand has it's work cut out for it due to not having quite as much free mobility as Pansage can when on a battlefield like this, so while we might not be able to dodge the attack, we'll at least try to get you to stay back and away from us by spraying more hot water up towards Rapidash to try to keep it from potentially stomping us flat into the dirt.]

[ scald again?? fff... rapidash couldn't take another hit from that. but that means she could... ]

Rapidash, empoleon--switch targets. Fire spin, hydro pump!

[ rapidash immediately charges forth at pansage, while empoleon bum-rushes to take the scald attack in his place, shaking it off with an effort to counter with her own, colder, water counterattack. ]
