Rapidash, agility--! Do try to dodge!

[ empoleon just braces herself for now as rapidash makes a run for it. the water splashes on his hooves and he whinnies in pain, but it's only a glancing hit for now and he aims his back legs in a retaliatory kick >8| ]

[Should we have mentioned our Pokemon knew water-type attacks? Ah well. Look on the bright side Rapidash: If you're lucky, maybe you'll have been spared from getting inflicted with a Burn status from that Scald attack for now.

Stunfisk is knocked forward by the retaliatory kick, landing back on the ground again and wincing a little, but still prepared to keep right on fighting at the next command.

...But wait, what about Pansage?

Oh, there it is, emerging from a hole right underneath Empoleon's feet to attack it, and once it has emerged, whether the landed attack from Dig is successful or not, Cilan gives another command.]

Pansage, use Bullet Seed! [Pansage opens it's mouth and begins to fire seeds at the metal penguin, up close and personal from where it had emerged previously from that hole.]

[ funnily enough, rapidash's shins are looking pretty solidly reddened. it was indicative of a burn if she'd ever seen one. Platina instinctively reached for her bag, but... no, the stores didn't exactly stock burn heals so her inventory wasn't in very good shape. still, his forehooves were still available for attack. ]

Rapidash, stomp! Empoleon, counter with ice beam...!

[ penguin's been swept off her feet from the attack and was still struggling heavily to recover, but twisted from her position to open her beak and aim her icy breath at Pansage, still prone, trying to freeze the seeds in midair. ]
cilantro: (can't handle my battling poses)

Pansage, dodge it! Stunfisk, use Scald once more!

[We can't do anything about our bullet seed getting frozen and canceling out our attack, but Pansage jumps away to hide behind a nearby rock in an attempt to avoid getting hit by the beam of ice itself. Stunfisk on the other hand has it's work cut out for it due to not having quite as much free mobility as Pansage can when on a battlefield like this, so while we might not be able to dodge the attack, we'll at least try to get you to stay back and away from us by spraying more hot water up towards Rapidash to try to keep it from potentially stomping us flat into the dirt.]

[ scald again?? fff... rapidash couldn't take another hit from that. but that means she could... ]

Rapidash, empoleon--switch targets. Fire spin, hydro pump!

[ rapidash immediately charges forth at pansage, while empoleon bum-rushes to take the scald attack in his place, shaking it off with an effort to counter with her own, colder, water counterattack. ]
cilantro: (battle? well okay then...)

[personal profile] cilantro 2013-01-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Well this isn't good.] Pansage, Dig! Stunfisk, dodge and use Thundershock!

[Pansage attempts to dig down into the ground again, but when Rapidash has charged past, Pansage immediately resurfaces from the same hole rather than digging a new hole yet, attempting to blow out some flames that ended up being caught on it's tail first. ;A;

Stunfisk definitely, definitely doesn't want to get hit by Hydro Pump, so it tries with all it's might to leap it's body outta the way, but it's not quite enough to avoid it, feeling the blast of water graze it and any closer would have blasted it into the wall. It lands back down on a rock cringing in pain before it's body begins to charge with electricity now to follow up with an attack, attempting to shock the metal penguin now in retaliation.]

[ thundershock?? she'd been wondering what kind of pokemon exactly Stunfisk was, he couldn't be electric-type, could he? MAN... and rapidash is nearly keeling over, too. ]

Rest, rapidash! And empoleon--prepare yourself...!

[ rapidash nearly collapses, but lays his head on his forelimbs to recover. empoleon gets solidly shocked--it'll take a while longer to shake this one off, and stutters out a chirp in paralysis. ]
cilantro: (class I think it's time for exposition)

[personal profile] cilantro 2013-01-17 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Stunfisk is part Electric type, if that helps. But what's the other type? Well you'll have to figure it out yourself. In the meantime, it looks like Pansage has managed to beat the flames away from it's tail, but it doesn't make a move yet, waiting to see what it's trainer might want it to do now instead.]

Hm...it looks like the combination of Rapidash and Empoleon, while certainly formidable Pokemon when it comes to their endurance and attacks, hasn't quite ripened yet...or rather, there's still time before the battle has reached the peak of it's flavor.

[Pointing towards Rapidash] First, let's try to give our friend a little wake-up call: Stunfisk, use Mud Bomb!

[Stunfisk opens it's mouth to give that pony a potentially very rude awakening using a ball of mud this time to hit it with. As for Pansage, they're mostly keeping an eye out for Empoleon, in case it's not as paralyzed as it they think it might be and if it has to step in to keep it from stopping or hitting Stunfisk with Hydro Pump again...]

[ knowledge was her forte, but she was charging in blind to this battle with unknown pokemon and it clearly showed. rapidash was in trouble... in a brief moment of panic, she withdrew his pokeball. ]

Lopunny--jump kick! Empoleon--please snap out of it, ice beam!

[ before the mud bomb could hit, rapidash had been recalled and lopunny had leapt over the attack to mount her own aimed straight at stunfisk. empoleon stutters again, but rears up and fires a blast of ice at pansage after an uncertain start. ]

Pansage, Dig! Stunfisk--[Pansage crawls back into it's hole that it had previously dug earlier, just barely missing the Ice Beam as the ice covers over the top of the hole--looks like we'll have to make a new opening here soon to attack from. Stunfisk on the other hand, taken off-guard by the switch in opponents, ends up getting kicked before it can think to dodge, so we'll have to try to push onward and endure it.]--use Mud Bomb, once more!

[From where Stunfisk has been kicked by Lopunny, it launches a ball of mud at it, hoping to hit it this time before the mudfish ends up landing a few feet away. Judging by the shape that Stunfisk appears to be in now, it's looking pretty sore, much like how Rapidash was earlier. However, since we're supposed to act as we would for Gym Battles, Cilan doesn't switch it out for another Pokemon like Platina did (only the challenger is normally allowed to make substitutions, after all), so now he's musing a little.]

My, that kick had quite a strong spice to it! [Hmm] We may have to consider rethinking our strategy a little here if we hope to overpower it...

[And, of course, we still have to give a proper tasting of your skills... which is what our next comment will hopefully be when I no longer have to resort to phone tags at the moment... ^^;;]

Kicks are lopunny's specialty! Speaking of--avoid the bomb with a bounce attack. Empoleon, surf!

[ the bomb barely skims lopunny's paws as she kicks off from the ground, slightly unsteadily as she trips over but avoids the brunt of the attack, then prepares to crash heavily down on stunfisk. empoleon, meanwhile, takes advantage of pansage's disappearance to wash the whole field over in a sudden torrent of water, hoping to damage him when he surfaces, even as the water washes towards stunfisk at the same time. ]

Stunfisk, use Scald! And Pansage--[...Wait, Surf? Oh, damn...while Stunfisk could survive Lopunny's attack, there's no way it could dodge or survive Surf at this point, not without a miracle anyway. Just as Stunfisk is potentially struck by the Bounce, pulling itself out from under Lopunny and sliding back away, Pansage suddenly resurfaces right underneath where Stunfisk was before and now where Lopunny has landed to attack it with Dig. Stunfisk will attempt to use this opportunity to spray Lopunny with a blast of hot water to the face once Pansage has unsteadied it, trying to get one last attack in before the waves of Surf start coming towards them...

...And judging from the looks on their faces, they're not gonna like this. Pansage moves to cross it's arms in front of itself to brace for the attack, while Stunfisk sort of huddles behind it as the waves crash and wash down over them. Once the water begins to subside, Pansage can be seen swimming up a little to the top of the water to breathe, spitting out some water it ended up accidentally taking in before it starts looking around for Stunfisk.

Poor Stunfisk, on the other hand, even though it can breathe underwater just fine, the force of the waves hitting it was enough to knock it out as it is seen rising up too next to the grass monkey, having fainted.]

...W-well, that Surf certainly had quite an overwhelming taste to it... [But Cilan still manages to smile as he's taking out a pokeball, recalling Stunfisk.] Thank you for all of your hard work, Stunfisk.

[He then turns his attention to Platina, as Pansage shakes the water off of itself once it finds a rock to stand on until the water has gone back down to a reasonable level again. Cilan is now taking out his remaining pokeball that contains his third Pokemon as he speaks.] How exciting! You've been an excellent challenger so far--are you ready to continue, Miss Platina?

T... thank you, Mr. Cilan. You're quite the worthy opponent, yourself. And your pokemon... I definitely wish I could study unova species in more detail now!

[ empoleon rears slowly back up from her attack, still stuttering a little from paralysis. Platina takes a count: all three of her pokemon were injured, not to mention burned, paralyzed, or asleep. still... maybe there was hope for a turnaround. ]

[He beams before he uses those classy pokeball-throwing skills again to toss up the next one.]

Let's continue to present a battle that shows the taste of the earth at it's full splendor! My vintage Pokemon, Crustle! [And out comes Crustle, which appears to be a hermit crab-like Pokemon carrying a large rock on it's back. Oh, but Cilan's not done yet; he straightens his bow-tie, and with a snap of the fingers--]

It's tasting time~! [What the heck is that you may be wondering? Well, allow us to tell you as he continues speaking.] As I told you before, as a Pokemon Connoisseur, it's also my job to evaluate the flavors of one's Pokemon in battles as well. Allow me to give my current diagnosis, a tasting of your skills thus far: your Pokemon appear to be a fitting match when paired with a lady such as yourself--elegant, but holding a flavor of potential in the power of their attacks. Individually, they hold talents of their own--the beauty of Rapidash's flames, the grace of Lopunny's kicks, and the strength of Empoleon's waves. The way they work together with you is a pleasant combination with a palatable taste.

...However, as this is a double battle, it feels like the taste of our Pokemon's teamwork with each other has only scratched the surface so far--so, let's see if we can add an extra flavor of appeal to this battle: Pansage, Crustle, combine your efforts to keep your opponents from getting any closer to the edge of victory; use Bullet Seed and Rock Slide!

[They nod as Pansage then proceeds to jump up on top of Crustle's rock, as it sucks in a breath to launch a spray of seeds at the Pokemon in front of them, attempting to keep them at bay--at the same time, Crustle is holding it's claws up, and now several large, sharp rocks are also dropping down from above over their opponents as well. Will Lopunny and Empoleon be able to find a way to avoid the seeds being shot at in front of them and the pointy rocks falling down above them?]

... Thank you for your analysis, Mr. Cilan. But it's true that I still have a lot to improve on, even now. And I always will be trying to reach for perfection!

[ it's only polite to bow at the assessment--so this is how pokemon connoisseuring worked, huh? and it was probably true that she hadn't practiced for double battles enough.

she wanted to believe that her trouble with this battle was a lack of knowledge, but that was only one aspect. Platina eyes Custle--he looked like a water-type. but the oncoming attack... she had to think fast. ]

Empoleon, blizzard! Do try to freeze as many of the seeds as you can, like before! Lopunny, kick as many of the rocks back as possible, cover for her blind spots--

[ and for what seeds and boulders she couldn't aim out of paralysis. both pokemon try their best to repel the attack, lopunny noticeably more nimble and successful despite wincing from her burn. ]
cilantro: (battle? well okay then...)

[personal profile] cilantro 2013-02-12 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, what an impressive taste! It looks like your Pokemon really can work well together~! [Seriously, that was an excellent way to try to counter against the attack...but we're not going to give up, even if we have to take a defensive approach this time.] Crustle, do your best to have the two of you avoid the rocks!

[Pansage crawls down to cling on to the back of Crustle's shell, using the rock as a small shield of sorts against the more icier parts of the cold Blizzard attack as Crustle scuttles side to side or backwards to attempt avoiding any rocks that get kicked back towards them. It's not entirely perfect, as Crustle does get grazed by one or two rocks and they are still having to withstand the cold, but it's better than just sitting there and taking the full brunt of those attacks.]

[Well, Pansage is male and Crustle...actually we don't know what it and Stunfisk's genders are, they've never stated them in the anime yet. Either way, Cilan raises an eyebrow at this as Pansage is starting to look kind of smitten there--it doesn't look Lopunny is using Attract, which means...]

...Ah, putting Lopunny's Cute Charm to use I see... [But it doesn't look like it's charm has reached Crustle yet, so maybe there's still a window of opportunity here--] Crustle, quick, use Shell Smash!

[The hermit crab Pokemon suddenly leaps out and upward, leaving it's shell behind with Pansage (who doesn't seem interested at all about attacking Lopunny anymore, and gosh, perish the thought of attacking Lopunny's friend Empoleon too at the moment, that just seems mean--) as a red, glowing cracks are forming around Crustle's body--until with a shattering noise, it looks like the outer shell of it's skin has broken off, like that of a snake shedding it's skin for healthier, younger skin underneath.] Now use X-Scissor on Lopunny!

[It complies as it's claws start to glow and--whoa where did it go? One moment it was there, the next it's practically right in front of Lopunny now, it's speed having increased exponentially from the use of Shell Smash--and the bunny is going to find that it's attack power has severely increased too, as it makes to strike down on it with it's claws in an X-shaped slashing attack.]

But, nonetheless, the battle is far from over yet--there's still Empoleon, and Rapidash too. Without Stunfisk to use a water-based attack, this may be a little tricky, but we'll just see how it goes.]

Hm...normally I can't help but wonder if it's in bad taste to attack a Pokemon while they're resting, but Pansage, do see if you can wake up our sleeping friend here with Bullet Seed? [Pansage complies as it then launches some bullet seeds at the sleeping Rapidash--it won't cause a lot of damage due to it's typing, but if it's still not enough to wake it up...] And Crustle, prepare to use Rock Slide again, once more.

[Pansage holds it's paws to the side where a silvery light is glowing there, and as it raises it above it's head, it begins to form the shape of a large rock, before it then tosses it in Rapidash's general direction. Not only will it hurt if it hits, but it can lower it's speed too if it's not careful or quick enough to dodge or something!]
