It's my birthday. Ordinarily, I'd have a banquet, but commoners usually celebrate with a single cake, right?

I wish I had known it was your birthday sooner, I would've been more than happy to bake a cake for you as a gift. [Still would be, if she wanted.] As for your question, I'm sure birthdays can be celebrated however you wish--either with a small cake for a simple affair or putting together something as elaborate as a full spread of treats if one like's to have a celebration with an extravagant flavor. It's all a matter of one's tastes, I suppose, not just due to one's social status.

Hm... [He actually has to think about it for a second.] You know, I don't think I have a particular taste that I like more over another--I like to try and make different types of cakes when I can.

[The last cake he can remember making is...one with Pecha berries once, so yeah, possibilities of different cakes are endless.]

That makes sense, too! Or, since you're a connoisseur, it must be difficult to choose a favorite, right?

I'm not sure about favorite, but I do enjoy red velvet cake. I don't suppose you know how to make that, do you?

[Ooh, nice choice...] Ah, they have quite a sweet and rich taste to them, don't they? Hm...I don't think I've made red velvet cake in some time, but I do know how it's done. [And even if he didn't by chance remember the directions word for word, he's pretty sure that there's probably a cookbook here in his kitchen somewhere that would have the recipe for it.] If that's the type of cake you'd like to have, then I'll gladly be willing to bake one for your birthday. Does that sound acceptable to you?

It does! If it's not that much of an inconvenience, that is.

[I suggest digging a hole and burying it--that poor cake needs to be disposed of somewhere outside the house, and perhaps even given funeral rites.

Anyway, we'll be here where we said we'd be when Platina does arrive on the seventh floor of CH1--there's even his Pansage out of its pokeball, who waves a cheerful greeting at her from where it's hanging out in the doorway of their kitchen. Come right this way, Miss Platina!]

[Cilan will be looking up from where he's tying on his apron that he usually wears whenever he's doing anything cooking related--it looks like he's already gotten all the ingredients and stuff we'll need laid out on our counters and table nearby, so we're covered on that.]

Ah, hello Miss Platina. Please, come right on in! [And Pansage will be running into the kitchen too where it goes and jumps up on a chair nearby to hang out and watch.] Once you've washed your hands, we can get started!

[ heading on over to do just that, while grinning a little at Pansage's antics. she'd really like to know what kind of pokemon he is, but maybe cake is more important for now. ]

Of course! I know we have one or two more around--ah, here you are!

[And he'll be offering one out that's been handed over to him by Pansage. This kitchen has gotten quite a bit of action lately, what with Cilan living here as well as Ingo having an interest in cooking as well, so we've had to invest in keeping a few spares handy. ^^;;] Now then, once you're ready, it's baking time~! The first step is to preheat our oven to 350...

[Do you know how to do that, Platina?]

[ tying it up with a flourish, looking pleased. this is an accomplishment!! and preheating should be simple enough... ]

I wonder if a higher temperature would be more efficient, though.

Well, the purpose of preheating is to help "set" the outside of our cake where it will rise properly, and that our mix will cook all the way through before the outside of the cake starts to burn. Setting it too high can cause cracks or even burning it and giving it a less than desirable taste.

[...Don't tell me, did you preheat your cake from earlier at a higher temperature than necessary...]

That... makes sense. I think.

[ SHUSH. she stares at the oven before setting the heat correctly with a sigh. gosh! ]
